Bloomberg reporter Iain Marlow’s lecture at the Asian College of Journalism was a master class in how to cover political news for a business audience. He helped students understand how political events ranging from elections to budgets could move markets. He closely tracks the Indian economy and regional geopolitics out of New Delhi. The Canadian explained how he overcame language barriers and the challenges of being an outsider in India. He shared the highs and lows of reporting from across India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and stressed on the need for journalists to keep an open mind despite their inherent biases. He urged young journalists to get out of the newsroom more to find compelling anecdotes, build new sources and verify all that they hear by phone.
