The freelance journalist explained the evolution of the banking sector and the key events in history which had a huge impact on it, including the Indian economic liberalisation of 1991.

Vageesh highlighted the differences in how cooperative banks, public sector banks, private sector banks and payment banks work.

He urged the students to make data their friend while covering the sector.

“Start looking into data, over a period of time a pattern will start appearing,” Vageesh said via Zoom.

He helped the class decode banking jargon, understand the duties of the Reserve Bank of India and identify the key sources of information on the sector.
