As journalists, we need to track big business investments because they influence stock movements, said Prince Thomas in a lecture to ACJ-Bloomberg 2024-25 batch students.

“Ratan Tata Invested a lot in business, we need to keep a track on it…They move stocks”, said Thomas, Managing Editor of Morning Context.

Thomas began his lecture by discussing trends in family businesses in India from 1951 to 2016. He provided critical insights into how some family businesses have remained in the top list, while very few that were not initially prominent have reached the top.

Family businesses are businesses in which the majority of the stake is held by a family member or the family.

Thomas spoke about how journalists can focus on stories about succession in family businesses. He showed students a few major succession stories he had covered. At the end of the session, students participated by pitching follow-up stories featuring a family business.
